What We’re Saying: If you watched much of the Tokyo Olympics, you may have seen adidas athletes wearing the brand’s most advanced 4D sneaker yet, the 4DFWD, while on the podium. Soon, you’ll be able to emulate your favorite Olympians, as adidas is releasing the commemorative “Tokyo” colorway of the 4DFWD.
The 4DFWD was made in collaboration with 3D printing technology company, Carbon, who aided in the development of the next generation of programmable resins that are lighter and stiffer to better enable forward motion. Created using Carbon’s Digital Light Synthesis technology, the 3D-printed “bow-tie” lattice midsole of the 4DFWD is designed specifically to propel runners forward, so whether an amateur or a pro, each athlete can enjoy precision performance with every step. A rubber outsole then works in harmony with the innovative midsole to provide superior traction at all speeds.
Up top, the 4DFWD boasts a Primeknit+ upper partially made from high-performance recycled materials. While considerably breathable, the fabric gives you the support you need for a smooth and effortless ride.
The overall design of the 4DFWD is based on years of athlete data, while adidas and Carbon have been perfecting the 4D lattice midsole technology since 2017. Now, following a limited release, you’ll soon be able to take advantage of the innovation when the “Tokyo” 4DFWD becomes available on August 12 for $200. Don’t stress if you miss out on this particular drop, though. adidas intends to make this shoe the highest volume 3D-printed product ever produced.
