Sports is more than a game, it is an effective tool for promoting mutual understanding, health, team work, and leadership.
Sports brings cultures together and bridges the gap between countries. Currently the Sekhon Family Office ( SFO ) Foundation sports for development initiative is focused on training the next generation of tennis players in honor of our Grandfather Dharam Singh Sekhon, who was a tennis player at Wimbledon.
We call our initiative Play Your Court. We feel tennis can teach children valuable life lessons and skills that they can use throughout their lives such as discipline, endurance, strategy, sportsmanship, responsibility, self-confidence and learning to trust yourself and your instincts, improved mental strength and problem-solving skills.
Sekhon Family Office ( SFO ) Foundation operates tennis camps in cities around the globe so children of all ages can learn this sport and learn to develop valuable sportsmanship qualities and life skills. At the end of camp each season we have exchange tournaments giving children a change to show their skills and sportsmanship and to have fun.
Sports brings cultures together and bridges gaps between countries and across generations. It is recognized as an essential element of learning through physical activities and games. These activities have been a great motivator to enhance the spirit of learning and leadership, especially amongst the rural children.
With an intention to reinforce the youth of our country with the power of sportsmanship the foundation celebrates Sports Day annually in rural areas to promote and foster community connection through active participation in various games and activities organised during the event.
Foundation also focuses on using sports as a medium to encourage learning and breed leadership among the youth in the rural areas. Bringing people from various villages together leads to stronger bond between tribes, neighbours and families.
This initiative is a medium to enhance community partnership and promote traditional rural sports. Sports Day brings together people every year who enjoy different games and sports. It has resulted in youth transforming into Community Youth Leaders and serving as mentors to the village children.
The program uses sports and activities as a tool for development to bring about positive changes.
