We all dream of going to Disneyland, but thanks to Disney x CDG‘s new capsule collection, you can bring Disneyland home to you.

COMME des GARÇONS has been keeping busy: it’s currently dominating the final quarter of the year.

In the past month alone, we’ve had eyes on COMME des GARÇONS’ BAPE, Nike Air Foamposite One, New Balance, and Salomon collaborations, a new CDG Play x Converse, and KAWS’ debut CdG scent

Can CDG do no wrong? Well, not quite.

The instant sell-out of the recent Stüssy x CDG collaboration isn’t likely to set the tone for the House of Mouse capsule. In the same vein as the Stüssy collection, Disney x CDG offers a series of monochrome graphic tees and hoodies, but it lacks the streetwear-savvy collectibility of the Stüssy line — not surprising, considering the subject matter, but it’s still not a terribly stimulating collection.

The graphics of choice present Mickey Mouse as the ultimate cool kid, sporting some shades Kim Kardashian would be proud of, in an oversized print. At the rear of the hooded garments, the Mouse’s oversized clogs sit on a skateboard, showing some love to the culture at the heart of streetwear.

Judging by CDG’s Instagram comments, public perception of the collaboration is pretty split, though. Many fans have taken a disliking to the brand’s choice to join forces with a global corporation like Disney and the design choices themselves.

“So ugly / don’t partner with big corp Disney,” one person said, inexplicable punctuation and all. Another biting jab: “Disney sucks.. but so are these designs, perfect match.”

It’s an oddly vitriolic reaction given that CDG, a COMME des GARÇONS sub-label even more affordable and accessible than CdG Play and BLACK COMME des GARÇONS, is best known for branded staples and Vans collabs.

Not to mention, COMME des GARÇONS has collaborated with Disney for years, even dropping a mainline tie-up this past summer.

Hell, COMME has long operated a sub-division dedicated to manufacturing straight-up Beatles merch, so it’s not like the Disney stuff represents the company “selling out.”

On the other hand, it’s a pretty meh collab, so, yeah.

Like it or not, Disney x CDG launches on CDG’s web store and at worldwide Dover Street Market and COMME des GARÇONS stores on October 6.
