Ditch the workout routine with these 6 fun workout trends to keep yourself fit and engaged

RowingROWING
While the rowing machine is an incredibly efficient, full-body workout that allows the athlete to build aerobic endurance and muscular strength at the same time, a lack of proper technique and training is common among gym-goers and can lead to injuries and misuse. To complete a rowing action, you need to engage your upper body to pull the handle to your midsection, and then engage your lower body to push back. This makes it a full-body workout, helping you tone your arms and legs as well as strengthen your core.

GROUP WORKOUT
Group workouts give you motivation that you may not get doing a workout on your own. Your instructor will push you and challenge you. You’ll find people in the class who you make it your goal to stay up with. Your classmates will encourage you. You’ll find that you are motivated by the people around you and that’ll make the workout much more enjoyable to do. Interacting with people who pump as you are to get fit, the camaraderie and social support, all help boost endorphin levels, and leads to better workout performance. The more the merrier, and now fitter too!

FUNCTIONAL TRAINING
The purpose of functional fitness training is to improve your ability to perform your everyday activities. Think of it as training for the entire movement—not just a specific muscle. When you jump, you’re not just using your leg muscles. It’s a coordinated effort between your nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory, and musculoskeletal systems that allows a fluid movement.
The key to effective functional fitness training is simulating the actual activity that you’re training to improve. There should be a focus on doing similar types of contraction (eccentric, concentric, or isometric), speed, a range of motion, and level of coordination. The closer the exercise mimics the actual activity, the more effective the training.

BATTLE ROPE WORKOUT
Battle ropes, sometimes called heavy ropes, are one of the newest fitness trends hitting gyms across India. Long used as a training tool for football players, mixed martial artists (MMA), and other athletes, battle ropes can provide a high-intensity, whole-body workout that gets your muscles moving in new ways. Unlike the relatively static movement of lifting and lowering a barbell, using battle ropes is a dynamic, ever-changing form of movement that has the added benefit of showing you whether you’re doing the movements correctly. The ropes can be whipped, slammed, or dragged, but among the most popular are undulating movements that cause the ropes to move in waves.

ALPHABET WORKOUT
the alphabet workout is a chart that has one exercise allotted to each alphabet, and you need to do reps of each alphabet, for a minute. Any time you have the opportunity to work out, simply go alphabetically, for as much time as you have. Make it fun, spell out words! It could be your name, the day of the week, or even a phrase if time permits. You will find many alphabet workout charts on the web, created to give you a good mix of upper body, lower body, and cardio, without the need of any equipment. Just so you know, it’s perfectly acceptable to spell out ‘Cheesecake’ at your next workout, it’s all in the name of fitness, after all!

BALLET BARRE WORKOUT
Barre fitness is a hybrid workout class – combining ballet-inspired moves with elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and strength training. Most classes incorporate a ballet barre and use classic dance moves such as plies, alongside static stretches. Barre also focuses on high reps of small range movements. But the real difference between barre and other workouts are the isometric movements you usually perform – holding your body still while you contract specific muscles until you shake and feel the burn! Barre delivers a full body workout, but it’s great for strengthening your core and toning your glutes and legs. Because ballet barre is low impact, it’s great if you recovering from an injury. Barre workouts are also a good cross-training option to pair with other exercises like running, weight lifting or cycling because they strengthen the muscles needed for these exercises without being too stressful on the body.
