A brand new build, this three-storey five-bedroom house in Sydney, Australia was to become a chic new home for a young family. The client engaged Greg Natale Design to construct a minimalist, modern house that took its cues from Cubist principles and used natural stone and monumental in scope.

Situated on a sloping site, the challenge lay in creating connections between inside and out as the home was spread across different levels. Unable to create seamless transitions, Natale set about bringing the outside in through the large windows and in all balconied areas.

The grandest gesture in the home could well be the circular staircase, which introduces an organic form among all the angles. Natale also exposed an interior wall of blocks to echo the exterior treatment of the house. Finishes of marble, granite and travertine are all celebrated but softened in places by the use of design classics from Eames, Featherstone and Knoll, as well as decorative elements that hark to another era in his own rug and carpet designs as well as pieces from Jonathan Adler’s collections.
