Jeremy Irons Out-Dressed Lady Gaga on ‘House of Gucci’ Red Carpet

The House of Gucci cast hit the red carpet for the film’s London premiere and, naturally, Lady Gaga served.

More unexpectedly, though, actor Jeremy Irons pulled off an equally remarkable look, albeit a marginally glamorous one.

The 73-year-old attended the premiere in a peacoat and a skinny scarf — his favorite accessory, it seems — worn over a waistcoat and trousers tucked into his socks and combat boots. An iPhone 8 casually tucked into his vest tops off the look.

Irons, who plays Rodolfo Gucci (Maurizio Gucci’s father), is better known for his roles in Brideshead Revisted and Lolita than his sartorial prowess, making his red carpet appearance all the more delightful.

I’d take a gander that Irons doesn’t work with a stylist, a risky move that few celebrities can pull off without looking schlubby.

The visible socks, the scuffed boots, the old smartphone tucked into his vest lend the outfit a “DGAF” insouciance that makes it arguably cooler than the night’s more polished stars, such as the very conservatively suited Adam Driver.

The ‘fit stood in sharp contrast to the premiere’s other red carpet looks, nearly all of which were provided by the IRL house of Gucci.

Jared Leto coordinated his blue Gucci suit with his eyes, Salma Hayek shone in a gold Gucci gown; and Ms. Gaga went all out in platform boots, fishnet thigh-highs, and a flowy sheer dress hot off Gucci’s “Love Parade” runway.

It’s not entirely clear whether Irons’s outfit kept with the night’s capital-G theme. Given the broken-in look of it, I’m guessing he went rogue.

His ensemble follows in the footsteps of Bernie Sanders’s inauguration outfit, deliciously casual in the face of a bunch of ultra-formal posturing — a win in my book.
