BMW Motorrad 2022 R nineT Urban GS

As it looks as if we’ll all be tooling around town for the foreseeable future, BMW Motorrad has just the wheels for adventure-minded but city-bound bikers. A stalwart in the German brand’s range for years, the new 2022 R nineT Urban GS packs the familiar and rugged 1,170cc boxer engine, shaft drive and classic retro styling, but now comes in a cool, black-storm metallic edition that should get heads turning wherever you roll up on it.

Prestige Yacht X70

Packing superyacht levels of spaciousness into a 70-foot (21-metre)-long vessel takes some doing, but the designers of Prestige Yacht’s new X70 flagship have pulled it off with aplomb. Reimagining yacht design has enabled them to maximise main-deck width, creating four spacious — and beautifully finished and furnished — areas, while also ensuring full fore-and-aft access. We frankly can’t imagine a more luxurious ocean escape this summer.

Ferrari 296 GTB

The first roadgoing Ferrari with a V6 engine since the delightful Dino 246 of the early 1970s, Maranello’s new 296 GTB is a very different kettle of fish — a prodigiously powerful and tech-laden hypercar that points the way towards an emissions-lite future for the Italian car manufacturer. Although the turbocharged petrol-driven component of its incredibly complex power unit displaces less than 3-litres, it alone produces a monstrous 654bhp; added to the e-motor, the whole ensemble pushes out a barely credible 818bhp, which is good for a 0-200km/h acceleration time of 7.4 seconds and a maximum in the realm of 330. Of course, it goes around corners. Of course, it stops on a dime. But with looks like these, we’d be more than happy just staring at this gorgeous creation.

Leica M10-R

Anything that comes out of the Ernst Leitz camera factory gets the Prestige seal of approval, but we’re positively drooling over this M10-R which is clothed in a glossy black finish that, when aged, will reveal a gorgeously vintage patina. We Leica!

Four of the Maison's most emblematic horological creations, now reimagined as kaleidoscopic limited editions fueled by the "authentic aesthetic culture" of electronic music.

Capsule collections are nothing new in the business of fashion, but if anyone is sufficiently equipped to translate the excitement and fleetingness of those limited releases to the world of horology, Chanel is surely top of the pops. This month, the house that Gabrielle built is unveiling its newest array of timepieces, inspired by the sights, sounds, and all-encompassing energy of electronic music in the 1990s.

"I conceived this capsule as if it were a performance program," says Arnaud Chastaingt, Director of Chanel's Watchmaking Creation Studio, "inviting our classics, the Première, J12, Boy•Friend, and Code Coco, to perform side by side". In practical terms, the 'Electro' timepieces thereby invoke the sensation of descending into warehouses, clubs, and dancehalls on the precipice of the new millenium; contrasting the nocturnal blackness symbolic of those locations against the illumination resulting from light and colour. We cycle through each of the new Chanel Electro releases below:

J12 Electro

A mainstay of Chanel's watchmaking stable (and winner of the coveted Ladies' Watch Prize at the GPHG in 2019) the new J12 'Electro' consists of two limited editions: one, larger and mechanical; the other, smaller and quartz-powered. In the style of their splashier, baguette-set cousins these new Electros are decorated with a 'rainbow' of neon-coloured indexes -- perfect for late nights spent in subterranean techno bunkers. Both editions available in a run of 1,255 pieces.

The Chanel J12 Electro is now available in two limited editions, with self-winding Calibre 12.1 movement in 38mm (HK$66,900) or quartz 33mm (HK$51,300). To learn more, visit Chanel online.

Première Electro

Popular among the glitterati set thanks to its sinuous chain bracelet, the Première is reimagined in this electronica-themed capsule with leather links aping the vibrant, fluorescent colours of a laser lightshow. The bracelet itself is fashioned from stainless steel (treated with a shimmering black ADLC finish) while the whole ensemble is more than capable of taking a poolside splash thanks to 30 metres of in-built water resistance.

Boy•friend Electro

Easily the priciest model in the new collection, the Boy•friend does for 'Electro' what Daft Punk did for French house in the 90s -- bringing a touch of the robotic to the party. The collection's androgynous, geometric case shape makes a welcome return but is augmented in this case with a whimsical robot motif, assembled from 78 brilliant-cut diamonds. Consider this a mandatory part of your inventory whenever popping and locking.

Code Coco Electro

One of Chastaingt's newer, more unconventional designs, the Code Coco exists in a phantom zone somewhere between fashion and haute horlogerie. Not quite a watch nor a straightforward piece of jewellery, the Code Coco Electro pairs a quilted leather cufflet -- immediately eye-catching, thanks to its neon-pink do -- with two lacquered black dials. Rather perfunctorily, one of these tells the time; while the other is set with a single princess-cut diamond -- the punctuation point to any rave-ready outfit.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained so I’m aiming high by asking for a McLaren. Not just any Macca but this 765LT, which, as it’s probably the company’s best ever, should fit the bill just fine.

This recently launched 40-megapixel digital M10-R version of Leica’s incomparable rangefinder camera has sensitivity that’s now been increased to 50,000 ISO and a maximum exposure time of 16 minutes. Need I say more?

Last year I put in a cheeky request for a Sundeck yacht and — funny old world — no one took a blind bit of notice. Although I’m still hankering for some fun on the water, this time round I’m being slightly less aggressive by including for this Grand Sport rigid inflatable by Technohull in my 2020 Christmas wish list. It’s light, has plenty of room for my mates and goes just about anywhere inshore — and with a trio of 450hp outboards on the back, it’s not just fast but ludicrously so.

Rolex

The older I get, the more I like my watches to be simple and classic. And what fits the bill better than a time-only Rolex? I’m talking, of course, about the Oyster Perpetual, which for 2020 now comes in an eminently wearable 41mm diameter as well as a host of new dial colours. Although I’m tempted by the blue one, I reckon this more conservative model should fit the bill even better. With silver-grey sunray dial and — in a discreet touch of luxury — gold accents, it will go with just about anything, from casual to formal.
