Editor’s Notes: Eco-conscious upcycling warrior Marine Serre has a lot on her mind. This comes through in her output, which blends all kinds of crazy clothing into a stew of disparate influences that run the stylistic gamut.
For instance, Serre’s far-reaching SS22 collection, “Ostal24,” incorporates everything from regenerated denim patchwork to embroidered dutch tablecloths to upcycled nylons rebirthed into capes, cowls, and water bottle holders. Serre’s crescent moon logo looms large throughout, sewn into macramé and stamped across her signature bodysuits.
This is clothing for the greater good — nothing’s sustainable but Serre is hawkish about her carbon footprint and this collection is 90% recycled/regenerated — and it’s as futuristic as anything we ought to be wearing into an uncertain new era.
While Serre’s CORE collection ensures that casual fans can always snap up a bodysuit or trucker jacket, her mainline fare encompasses more dynamic fare.
Witness the shaggy layers of recycled popcorn fabric pinched into amorphous gardens of texture, the piles of repurposed silk scarves, the Y2K chains, the forks transmogrified into earrings.

“I want people to feel the beauty and the simplicity of being together and finding joy in cooking, eating, dancing, yoga,” Serre said. “And at the same time recognize that everyday we make choices that have an impact. … Fashion is about more than draping fabric and making a profit, it can be a place where we are free to take meaningful action.”
If swaddling ourselves in Serre’s vision of futurewear is a step in the right direction, so much the better.
